Standard Electric was established on May 1, 1952 with one location in
Waltham, Massachusetts focusing primarily on the Route 128 industrial
customer base. The company's growth over the next 10 years necessitated
numerous location changes and, in 1972, Standard Electric acquired a piece
of land overlooking Route 128-its current Waltham location. This major
investment occurred during a severe recession and, to increase market share,
Standard Electric began to diversify into the retail lighting market and the
contractor construction arena.
Over the years, Standard Electric has diversified into other areas and
experienced significant growth in markets such as:
- Construction and Contractor Market
- Commercial Market
(property managers, hospitals, schools, financial institutions, banking, insurance and government)
- Industrial Market
(automation, engineering, controls, sensors)
- Telecommunications Market
(Data, Voice, Video)
- National Accounts Market
(multi-site retail, entertainment and restaurant chains)
- Retail Lighting
Standard Electric has grown dramatically and become one of the largest
electrical distributors in New England and one of the top 50 in the nation.
In the past 12 years, Standard Electric has acquired numerous independent
electrical distributors in major metropolitan markets in Massachusetts,
Rhode Island and Connecticut.
Standard Electric's most recent acquisition is Connecticut Electric
Equipment Company Inc based in Meriden with locations in Guilford and
Waterbury. With this acquisition, Standard Electric has a total of 19
branches throughout New England.
Standard's Corporate Headquarters in Wilmington includes a state-of-the-art
distribution center, sophisticated voice and data capabilities to enhance
customer service and warehouse facilities in excess of 220,000 square feet.
A key to the company's success is their professional management and the
leadership provided by their executive team. With this solid foundation of
people, products and financial resources, and fueled by the strategy for
continued growth, Standard Electric is well positioned to prosper and grow
within the electrical distribution market for years to come.
