Standard Electric participates in The Memorial Church Renovations at Harvard University

The Memorial Church is a spiritual center for Harvard University. The church was dedicated on Armistice Day in 1932 to honor the memory of those who died in World War I. The church was a gift to Harvard University from the alumni and memorials have been added to remember those who have died in wars since.

A major renovation began on June 8, 2001, the day after commencement and remained closed throughout the summer. The renovation included all types of repairs including some that would enhance the buildings aesthetic appearance through lighting improvements. The Reverend Professor Peter J. Gomes took an active role in all the aesthetic renovations. He met with the architects and consultants prior to and throughout the renovations process and contributed immensely to its success.

An important part of the project was the lighting renovations and Standard Electric was called upon to provide their expertise on the entire interior lighting portion of the renovation project. Standard Electric with Osram Sylvania's assistance spent many hours at the church working with various lamp types to determine which lamp provide the best light levels in each interior section of the church.

Over 1000 incandescent lamps were replaced with halogen lamps ranging from 52 to 100 watts. Additionally the Chandeliers lamps were replaced with Osram's Sylvania 10,000 hour Landmark lamps. These lamps unique shape were the perfect compliment to the chandeliers and the historical architecture of the building.

Richard Campbell who is responsible for the maintenance of The Memorial church called the lighting, "remarkable". The Reverend Professor Peter J. Gomes upon the completion of the lighting renovation stated, "simply amazing, Standard Electric should be very proud".
