Troubleshooting open fuses has traditionally been a time-consuming chore, not so much difficult as annoying. But Ferraz-Shawmut has developed an innovative new solution that dramatically increases the speed of fuse replacement, with a solid-body design that incorporates advanced materials technology. The indicator for SmartSpot™ is now on the outside of the fuse, flagging open fuses by switching the SmartSpotTM indicator from silver to bright red. It makes it much easier to recognize open fuses and eliminates much of the guesswork that can slow a job. In developing the SmartSpot, Ferraz-Shawmut took special care to enhance the traditionally reliable power fuses in ways that wouldn't compromise their industry-leading performance or integrity, but provide new features the industry has demanded.

The SmartSpot is initially being offered with Ferraz-Shawmut's Amp-Trap 2000 line of Class J Time Delay and RK-1 fuses. They provide IEC Type 2 "2) (No Damage) protection, opening in less than 1/4 cycle under short circuit conditions and preventing undue damage to downstream components. Their current-limiting abilities rank among the highest in the industry, allowing for motor starting and transformer inrush current without nuisance openings.
