Copper Notes

Copper pricing has been averaging around 83 cents a pound for most of the first quarter with a low of 77 and a high of 90 cents a pound. For the most part the price has been fairly stable but is expected to climb higher through the year.

The latest purchasing surveys of metal buyers indicate a tightening of copper supplies. Robust activity in commercial construction, housing, air conditioning and transportation market increased the demand for copper tube, electrical and telecommunications wiring. The Copper Development Association also indicated that growth of consumer and commercial demands for being connected to the Internet pushed high capacity copper wire installations. The strong economy and increased demand for copper plus closing, cutbacks and shutdowns will contribute to the upward price trend of copper.

Because of these economic factors, experts are predicting that we could see prices in the low 90s through the summer because inventories are likely to remain tight through seasonal shutdowns.

As always, we are closely monitoring our copper cable inventories to ensure we have the lowest cost, allowing us to pass the savings on to you. Please tell us your requirements so we can provide you with maximum value on our complete and competitively-priced wire and cable inventory.
