The Power House Turns 50!

Fifty years ago, nobody —least of all Abe Brand and his original partners—expected Standard Electric to become “The Power House,” New England’s leading electrical supply distributor. Back then, in 1952, both the ambitions of the owners and the business itself were viewed in very modest but hopeful terms.

Fast forward to 2002, and you’ll see how far Abe, who became sole owner in 1969, has exceeded his dreams. With over 250 employees, 11 locations, and more than $100,000,000 in sales, Standard Electric has truly become the leader in the New England marketplace, and a force for innovation and good business practices in our industry.

In May of this year, the company officially celebrated its 50th Anniversary, launching a year-long celebration. As Steve Brand, Standard Electric’s Chairman, says in the reminiscence that follows, the company’s 50th Anniversary “prompts us to give credit to our loyal customers, key vendors and outstanding employees, all of whom have been so instrumental in helping to keep this company vibrant.”
